Edward Hamlin Everett 

(1851–1929), born in Cleveland and rose from a bottle salesman to a glass magnate. Educated at Phillips Academy and Bennington High School, Everett entered the glass industry in the late 1870s. In 1880, he purchased the Newark Star Glass Works, renaming it the E.H. Everett Company by 1885. 

Newark, Ohio: A Glassmaking Hub 

Newark's abundant resources and excellent transportation links made it a prime location for glass manufacturing. In October 1904, Everett facilitated the merger of several companies to form the Ohio Bottle Company, securing an exclusive license to use the revolutionary Owens automatic bottle-making machine. By early 1905, this evolved into the American Bottle Company and crowned Everett, “The Bottle King”.

Everett's leadership made Newark one of the nation's leading bottle producers, with his factories producing the lion’s share of all beer, soda, fruit jar, and pharmaceutical bottles in the United States. His innovations in bottle marking practices set industry standards. By the time of his death in 1929, his estimated wealth was $40–50 million. His industrial influence extended into real estate, natural gas, agriculture, and more.
